Prestige Mystery Drama - Tantalizing Fascinating Theatre

Katherine Parrish Whitbeck, Sarah McMullan, Annelise Williams, Charisse Champagne, Justin Hughes, Tim Hogle, Melissa DeVine, Jody Ryan, Laura Dial, and Linda Licht appear in The Chalk Garden. Written by Enid Gagnold, author of National Velvet, the play tells the story of an intriguing English woman with a mysterious, hidden past. Now working as a governess for a old aristocrat, she carefully guards her clouded past as she gradually begins to dominate the entire household and tame the wild grandchild. The mystery begins to unfold when an old judge stops in for lunch and more comes to the table than was ordered.

Deborah Kerr starred in the movie based on the highly praised stage show from the fifties. The show opened in London in 1956, after playing at the Barrymore in New York, and drew critical praise: "thunderbolts out of a clear sky . . . a vision of a very fresh and personal kind of a play - with an almost unearthly integrity." - Walter Kerr, NewYork Herald Tribune. "Once in a while a play comes along that lives in the heart and human will." - Saturday Review of Literature.
