Rodgers and Hammerstein's Great American Musical
Rodgers and Hammerstein teamed for the first time in 1943 and made history with Oklahoma! The show warmed the hearts of Americans throughout the war years and has charmed audiences ever since with its homespun humor and unforgettable songs. Beginning with "Oh What A Beautiful Morning" and ending with the rousing "Oklahoma!," the score also contains "People Will Say We're In Love," "Surrey With the Fringe On Top," "I'm Just A Girl Who Can't Say No," and "Out of My Dreams."
Agnes DeMille, renowned choreographer, contributed modern dance and ballet and established dance as an important feature of musical comedy. The original Oklahoma! toured as a road show for ten years and played as successful revivals in 1969, 1970, in the late 1990s, and most recently with Hugh Jackman in London..
Lamp-Lite presented Oklahoma! as its third "big musical" in 1981, shortly after moving to the present location. This time around, Lamp-Lite favorites Ken Wood, Jackie Vose, Mark Strange, Beth Sensabaugh, Kent Johnson, Bill Small, Justin Hughes, and Mark Stephens join with star SFA talent in a cast of more than thirty. |
