Philadelphia Story

Philadelphia Story Program  The Philadelphia Story first opened in 1939 in New York at the Shubert Theatre. Katherine Hepburn played the lead in the show that brought her to stardom. Joining her on stage were the young Shirley Booth as Liz Imbrie, the photographer and Joseph Cotton who played Dexter Haven, Tracy's first husband. Cary Grant played Dexter in the movie hit which remains an all-time black and white favorite. Grant demanded top billing and a then colossal salary at $137,000 which he promptly donated to the British War Relief. A native Brit, Grant was born Archibald Leech of London, England.

The movie also starred Jimmy Stewart who won an Oscar for his role as Mike, the wise cracking reporter. George Cukor, the leading actress' favorite director, guided Hepburn back to her rightful place as "Princess of Tinsel Town" after she had been dubbed as "box office poison."
Lamp-Lite produces the classic American comedy for the first time for the enjoyment of our East Texas audiences.
