Pump Boys and Dinettes first opened October 1, 1981, at the Colonnades Theatre in New York City. The Country Music Revue was conceived and written by John Foley, Mark Hardwick, Debra Monk, Cas Morgan, John Schimmel and Jim Wann. This team of writers and musicians also performed in the original show making up the entire cast of the little musical. They played the music, sang the songs, told the jokes, and presented all the scenes as a tight ensemble group.
The pump boys sell high octane on Highway 57 in Grand Ole Opry country and the dinettes, Pruddie and Rhetta Cupp, run the Double Cupp Diner next door. Carrie Butler Swann, Molly Sublett, Norm Markworth, Jimmy Ivins, and Mark Strange spin out the vocals. Musical whiz Charisse Glazener heads the combo which includes Charles Gardner, Andrew Blackwell, and Wade Williams. Together they fashion an evening of country-western songs that will set your foot tapping. |
